• Avoid revealing your character and goals given to you in your invitation to anyone. If you family members are attending the party too, don’t reveal anything to them too! The real fun in mystery parties is the mystery itself, don’t spoil it!
• You’ll probably get your invitations with instructions about your character before 4-5 weeks of the party. Go through it, and keep all of them in your mind.
• Don’t arrive late in the party, so that you don’t miss out anything.
• Most of the parties would be quite dynamic, i.e. people can achieve their given goal in a way they choose. Thus, interact with others, strike a conversation with them. • If you’re the criminal, try to be calm. Other sleuths may be suspicious about you at some stage, but do your best to avoid their detection! If you don’t emphasize something, only good keen eyes will be able to see you as a suspect.
• Don’t use real props like knives etc. This is just a game.
• Some people might act rude, some might not even talk. This might be due to their own attitude, or they have been instructed to do so. Its just a game, remember!
• Though quite unlikely, if you are unable to attend the party, inform the host as soon as possible. It allows him more time to make changes to the plot and characters if necessary.
• This one is the most important, ENJOY!

In such cases, each participant needs to have a keen eye for each others’ action. He/She needs to understand the clues uncovered and how it can relate to the suspect. There is just one thing I want you to remember, “Don’t Try To See What You Understand, But, Understand What You See.” Now, I know that anyone would like to be the Sherlock Holmes of the party, except when you’re the murderer/criminal.

You can visit sites like Braingle and browse through its mystery section. Its a puzzle site, wherein you can find a lot of mystery puzzles too. This will enhance your critical reading and understanding, so that you can see things from a different angle.

The first few puzzles might be tough, but then, you’ll know which part you need to concentrate.

In an interactive murder mystery party, try to find anything out of the ordinary. Now, you’re not a professional detective, but you don’t need to be either. Interact with other guests. As a rule, each guest has to achieve a target, and he is free to do it in any ways. Thus, if you’re keen on uncovering the secret, you will find a lot of dynamic stuffs happening around you, which is great.

Keep a piece of paper with you so that you can jot things down. Write down clues and stuffs you find important. This will help you solve the puzzle.

Remember, if two things look similar, they need not be the same! Thus, you need to join all pieces of the puzzle, only at some time to find that some parts don’t fit very well. These are mostly the villian’s various statements, which are subtly incorrect, and the major clues towards finding him.

It’s the present day on the island of Hawaii. The local culture, exotic and isolated for centuries, is being eroded by the constant stream of tourists flooding through the airports. All sorts of people rub shoulders at the resorts. Most of them are innocent travellers, but some of them have ulterior motives.

Lokuhai Beach is a small, isolated beach in the loneliest part of Harmony Cove. The beach itself is owned by Harmony Cove Resort, about a half-hour drive through rocky, mountainous countryside. Advertised as the “Last Real Hawaiian Beach”, it’s gorgeous. Birds of Paradise call to each other past the vibrant orchids — you could make your own lei in minutes — and jewel-toned lizards beg for table scraps. The music of the forest harmonizes with a nearby waterfall, cascading down the side of a steep hill through pools and sparkling in the sunset as it runs into the cove.

The luau started badly… the bus broke down on the way to the beach, and everyone had to walk the last fifteen minutes. Everyone’s cell phones seem to be unable to reach out of the mountains to the resort (or anywhere else), and the driver has been unable to get the bus running again. It’s 1952 and Bo Bennett’s Big Top Bonanza has reached Sarasota, Florida for their final show. With a successful nine month tour behind them, the performers and staff of the Bonanza are making plans for a restful and rewarding off-season.

As the curtain falls on the final Big Top performance, a select few gather in JoJo Bones’ Exotic Emporium of Enigmatica (part of the Bonanza). To celebrate the successful tour, JoJo will host a night of revelry, food, drink and, this year, what JoJo has promised to be “startling revelations.” Tragically, however, JoJo was killed last night. His body was found early this morning in the lions’ cage, mauled by lions Gladys and Mountjoy. Since JoJo’s body reeked of alcohol, preliminary reports are that he wandered into the cage in a drunken stupor.

Its party time!! Not just any old party, you want to throw a party they’ll remember; you want something that is going to be exciting; the usual fare is lots of food and music. Sometimes you may even hire clowns and stand up comedians to come and rock your party, a guitarist or a band, or someone to give you a couple of jaw-dropping hat tricks.

This one is going to be different, because they’re going to come and catch a killer! Your invitees must be people who can do this kind of thing without qualms. Your high-spirited friends who are thrill -bent and would like a good rush and make get their thinking hats on are a great lot to invite. They’ll be trying to solve a murder using the many clues that are left around the house by their host. Ready? Let’s go.

Requirements

Draft a script so that writing out the clues is not such a task. You’ll then need to translate the script into clues that will be all over your party scene.

Have your guest come with costumes and not wear them until the game starts. Of course you should let them know well in advance that they’ll be expected to have costumes. Have a camera to take pictures picture of the people who are going to take part in the game so that the people can use them as the dots which need to be connected. Get flash lights if some rooms are going to be dark. Put clues in balloons so that they can be popped for more clues. Create an outline of a body to be used as the murder exhibit. Let the scene look as authentic as possible with red, blood like color.

Make a script that is both scary and fun and of course be sure to invite friends who are fun, people who love a thrill and who are not easily spooked. This will make or break the kind of party you have.

The party will not be a success if anyone discloses their identities even to their own spouses or partners. Let the invites go out early enough and ensure that all the participants turn up because failure to do so will leave big hole in your script and will have to be filled for the party to be a success; remember to ensure your participants have a vivid description and have histories together and they can only get to know each other’s identities through question asking and sharp investigative skill.

At the party scene, leave clues everywhere. Let there be balloons that are going to lead people to the next clue until they decide who the murderer is. When you want to serve a meal, make sure you do so through a buffet so that you can concentrate on the acting and not serving guests with food and drinks.

The murder script should have loopholes so that the murderer can challenge the allegations and if possible let the murder be almost next to impossible to solve because that is what mystery party is all about – keeping the murder as mysterious as possible. If you can afford hire professionals to come and assist with the script writing this will enable you to come with a murder mystery game that will definitely thrill your guests.

Eventually, someone will unmask the murderer. Give them a prize and make sure they get lots of applause and praise. Of course a round of drinks is a good idea at this point !

Is it a good way to go for a party? Definitely. Many people have not been to a mystery party and this will make it much more interesting – they have no idea what to expect and they have to keep looking and guessing.

Make sure you buy or design a party that is age appropriate. Even younger children can enjoy dressing up as detectives and finding missing objects.

Start the fun with the invitations. Along with the regular information: Time, Location, etc., add a special message written backwards or in code. Give a prize to everyone at the party who figured out the message.

Older children will love acting out character biographies. You might want to send their information in advance so they can memorize a few things about their character and dress in costume.

The settings for these parties are limited only to your imagination. A few options are:

• Medieval days with knights and ladies roaming through castle halls. A wizard or two fits in well with this theme.
• Sherlock Holmes parties will send everyone into their best “Elementary, my dear Watson” imitations. It’s always fun to pretend you’re in foggy, mysterious London searching for evil villains.
• Spies are always popular with children. This party should be filled with secret codes and high level security clearances. Can they save the world before Chaos take over?
• Never forget the hard-boiled P.I. with trench coat and hat. You can’t find a more classic private eye theme than Sam Spade wannabe’s wandering the streets of San Francisco looking for the Maltese Falcon.
• Space ships are a way to mix the best of sci-fi and mystery. Whether it’s Capt. Kirk or Jimmy Neutron, a space age mystery can be “out of this world”.
• Tropical islands, carnivals, cruise ships, old haunted mansions, the circus, abandoned theaters, and wild west ghost towns are a few other examples of possible settings.

A quick search online can give you many ideas and sources for any type of mystery party your child wants. You can find everything from a few helpful ideas to a complete mystery party package with plot and accessories included. Make sure a few red herrings are involved so the mystery isn’t figured out too quickly.

A well planned mystery party will have your child’s friends talking for ages about the cool party you hosted and how much fun they had figuring out “who done it”.

Here are the things you need to think about when planning your child’s party:

   • Gymnastic centers

   There are many other places to host your child’s party and most of them are expensive. The best way to find out the costs of each place is to spend some time on the phone.

   Remember to ask:

   • How many children you’re allowed to bring.
   • What is the cost per child?
   • Are drinks and snacks included?
   • How about cake?
   • What kind of entertainment is provided?
   • How long does the party last?

   A big advantage of going somewhere else for your party is they’re in charge of clean up! Sometimes decisions need to be based on what you currently have more of, time or money.

3. Theme – Your child’s age and interests will help decide the theme of their party. And the older they get, the more they’ll have specific ideas about what they want. Though sometimes a three-year-old can be extremely emphatic about their requests, also.
4. Decorations – These will be determined by the theme. A generic theme such as pirates, cowboys, princesses, or a luau will usually be cheaper than a cartoon theme. However, you can offset this partly by combining general and specific. In other words, even if your child insists on a “Pirates of the Caribbean” party you can have a few decorations that are official and then finish off with regular pirate decorations. Not every single decoration needs to be a Disney product.You might want to check packages since sometimes buying a complete set of plates, cups, decorations, etc. is cheaper than buying things piece by piece.
